Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and market inspections of the BiH entities and Brčko District of BiH completed joint market surveillance of electric fans during the period from July to October 2021. The aim was to determine whether and to what extent the electric fans placed on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina are safe to use.
Electric fans are considered safe if they comply with
the requirements specified by the Order
on electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits
(Official Gazette of BiH, 98/09) and the standards BAS EN 60335-1 and BAS EN
60335-2-80.
During the market surveillance, 6 inspection controls
of electric fans were conducted. Inspectors performed administrative and visual
control of the products on the market and took 6 samples for laboratory
testing. Laboratory tests showed that 1 sample (16,6%) did not comply with the
requirements of the Order on electrical
equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits.
Risk assessment showed that the non-compliant product
posed serious risk to consumers, since it posed risk of electric shock. Therefore,
withdrawal from the market and destruction of the non-compliant product were
ordered, as well as the obligation to inform consumers about the risks posed by
the product and how to return the affected products.
In total, 2 products were withdrawn from the market
and destroyed.
