Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and market inspections of the BiH entities and Brčko District of BiH carried out joint market surveillance of children's bicycles during the period from March 2021 to March 2022.
The main objective of the market surveillance was to determine whether children's
bicycles placed on the market of BiH are safe to use. Children's bicycles are
considered safe if they comply with the requirements specified by the
Law on General Product Safety
(Official Gazette of BiH, 102/09) and the standard BAS EN ISO 8098:2015.
In order to determine whether children's bicycles meet the safety
requirements, laboratory testing of 9 samples was performed, as well as administrative
control of instructions for use and product labelling and visual control of
specific safety characteristics.
Laboratory tests showed that none of the 9 tested products complied with
the safety requirements specified by the standard BAS EN ISO 8098:2015. As a result of the surveillance activities,
118 children's bicycles were withdrawn
from the market and destroyed, while non-compliances were removed in 220 children's
bicycles.
Based on the results of the market surveillance
activities, it can be concluded that the situation on the market of BiH in
terms of safety of children's bicycles is not satisfactory. Therefore, market surveillance
of children's bicycles shall be repeated in 2022.
