TAIEX Study visit to Belgium and the Netherlands was held on 26th-29th May 2026. The aim of the study visit was to get insight into functioning of the market surveillance of toys in Belgium and the Netherlands, after the TAIEX expert mission and the TAIEX workshop on market surveillance of toys were held.

The participants of the study
visit were representatives of the institutions from the market surveillance
system: Market Surveillance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Inspectorate
of the Republic of Srpska, Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs and
the Inspectorate of Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the first day of the study
visit, the participants visited the Market Surveillance Authority of Belgium in
Brussels, where the hosts presented them with the way market works, as well as
cooperation of customs authorities and market surveillance authorities in
Belgium. The tools that contribute to successful cooperation and the challenges
that the competent authorities face were also presented.
On the second and third days of
the study visit, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the work
methods and competences of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety
Authority (NVWA), and to visit the NVWA Laboratory for Physical-Mechanical and
Electrical Testing (FME) in Zwijndrecht, as well as the NVWA Laboratory for
Chemical and Microbiological Testing (CMO), where they were presented with specific
methods of testing toys.
The study visit ended with a
visit to the Market Surveillance Authority of Belgium and attending an onsite inspection
at a toy store. On that occasion, six product samples (a 4-in-1 multi-coloured
ballpoint pen, a children's backpack, a C-ring active toy "Monkey", a
wooden toy - dog, a protective reflective vest and a bicycle helmet) were inspected
using three basic checklists. Non-compliances were found in two samples, as
they did not contain warnings in Dutch language, and measures were ordered to remove
the non-compliances.
After the presentations given by
the representatives of the host institutions, as well as during the visits to
the laboratories, the participants had the opportunity to ask questions and get
all the information important for the work of the institutions they come from.
This study visit was an
opportunity for the participants to be introduced to the practical experiences
in the toy market surveillance, and to establish contacts that can contribute
to future cooperation.
