Market Surveillance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 09, 2009 signed the Licence Agreement with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO) by which the Agency is granted the licence to translate and publish weekly RAPEX notifications on its website. By signing this Agreement, the Agency has become authorised publisher of BiH-languages editions of RAPEX notifications.
RAPEX is the EU rapid alert system for all dangerous consumer products, with the exception of food, pharmaceutical and medical devices. General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC) sets up the legal basis for the RAPEX. Every Friday, the Commission publishes a weekly overview of the dangerous products reported by the national authorities (the RAPEX notifications) on its website www.ec.europa.eu/rapex This weekly overview gives all information on the product, the possible danger and the measures that were taken by the reporting country.
Since the General Product Safety Directive was transposed in the BiH legislation in the form of two laws: The Law on General Product Safety and The Law on Market Surveillance in BiH, the obligations for monitoring safety of non-food consumer products placed on the market of BiH and informing the public about the risks and dangerous products abroad and in BiH are determined.
The significance of signing this agreement is reflected in the fact that regular publication of translation of RAPEX notifications on Agency’s website contributes to raising public awareness on product safety. Published translations will also allow consumers in BiH to be informed about dangerous products which have been found and withdrawn from the EU market. Furthermore, these notifications will provide additional support to the inspection authorities of entities and Brčko District when conducting inspection activities on the territory of BiH.
