Market surveillance of chairs for household use completed
02/03/2025
The main objective of the surveillance was to determine whether the chairs for household use that are available on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina are safe for users. Chairs for household use are considered to be safe if they meet the requirements specified by the Law on General Product Safety (Official Gazette of BiH, 102/09) and the standard BAS EN 12520:2017.
In order to determine whether the chairs for household use meet the safety requirements, 7 samples of chairs were subjected to laboratory testing, as well as to administrative verification of instructions for use and visual inspection of certain safety features.
The laboratory testing showed that 5 out of the 7 models of chairs for household use did not comply with the safety requirements specified by the standard BAS EN 12520:2017. As a result of the surveillance activities, 1 chair model (total of 53 products) has been withdrawn from the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and destroyed, because it posed a serious risk to consumers. The administrative non-compliances were removed in 4 models of chairs for household use (total of 1485 products).
