Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and the competent inspections of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Srpska and Brčko District of BiH completed joint market surveillance of toy slimes during the period from September to December 2020.

In accordance with the Law on General Product Safety (Official Gazette of BiH, 102/09), manufacturers shall place only safe products on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Toy slimes are considered to be safe in terms of the content of certain chemical elements if they meet safety requirements specified in the standard BAS EN 71-3 - Safety of toys - Part 3: Migration of certain elements.

During the implementation of surveillance, 9 samples of toy slimes were taken from the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and tested in the laboratory for migration of aluminium, antimony, arsenic, barium, boron, cadmium, chromium (III), chromium (VI), cobalt, copper, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, selenium, strontium, tin, organic tin and zinc. In 2 samples (22%) it was found that the migration of lead is higher than 0.5 mg/kg.

For the non-compliant toys, competent inspections have ordered measures of withdrawal from the market, recall from end users and destruction, as well as warning consumers of the risks.  Surveillance activities will continue to be conducted continuously.
