During the period from 1st September 2020 to 29th January 2021, joint proactive market surveillance of industrial safety helmets was conducted. The surveillance was conducted through cooperation of the Market Surveillance Agency of BiH, Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs, Republic Administration for Inspection Affairs and Inspectorate of Brčko District of BiH.

Objectives of the proactive surveillance were to assess the situation on the market of BiH in terms of safety of industrial safety helmets, withdraw the products that could pose a danger to users, enhance consumer safety and raise awareness of economic operators on placing safe products on the market.

During the implementation of proactive surveillance, 5 models of industrial safety helmets were tested. Non-compliances were found in all 5 models. 2 models posed a serious risk to consumers because they did not provide protection against injuries.

Importers removed the non-compliances in 2 models of helmets (total of 802 products). Economic operators withdrew from the market and destroyed 3 models of helmets (total of 519 products).

Most common non-compliances found in industrial safety helmets are the following:

-          puncture resistance is insufficient,

-          the retention system is not sufficiently strong,

-          the markings on the product are incomplete and

-          the required information on safe use of the product are missing.
