Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and market inspections of the BiH entities and Brčko District of BiH completed joint market surveillance of baby carriers during the period from May to December 2020. Baby carriers (soft carriers) are considered to be safe if they comply with the safety requirements specified in the standard BAS EN 13209-2:2017.

In order to determine whether baby carriers comply with the prescribed safety requirements, laboratory tests of five models of carriers were performed, as well as administrative verification of product information provided at the point of sale, instructions for use and markings, and visual inspection of certain safety characteristics.

Laboratory tests showed that none of the tested products comply with the prescribed safety requirements. Out of five tested models of baby carriers, one model was withdrawn from the market because it posed serious risk to the safety of children, while economic operators removed the administrative non-compliances in the remaining four models.

Based on the results of the market surveillance activities in 2020, it can be concluded that the situation on the market of BiH in terms of safety of baby carriers is not satisfactory.
