Proactive market surveillance of buoyant aids for swimming instruction - swim seats completed
02/15/2021
In order to place buoyant aids for swimming instruction on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, they shall be safe in accordance with the Law on General Product Safety (Official Gazette of BiH, 102/09). Buoyant aids for swimming instruction are considered to be safe if they meet safety requirements specified in the standard BAS EN 13138-3:2016.
During the implementation of proactive surveillance, 7 models of buoyant aids for swimming instruction (swim seats) were tested. It was found that the non-compliant products resembled a toy with a construction that stops the wind above the surface of the water, which does not comply with the requirements specified in the standard BAS EN 13138-3:2016. According to the standard, the design and appearance of a swim seat must not evoke the impression of being an aquatic toy. A swim seat must not contain toy elements or a construction above the surface of the water, such as animal figures, car, boat structures or other elements resembling an aquatic toy and wind-catching structures, e.g. a canopy or a parasol.
