During the period from July 2020 to February 2021, Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and market inspections of the BiH entities and Brčko District of BiH completed joint market surveillance of barbecues burning solid fuels.

The main objective of the project was to determine whether the barbecues on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina are safe to use, i.e. whether they comply with the requirements specified by the Law on General Product Safety (Official Gazette of BiH, 102/09) and the standard BAS EN 1860-1+A1:2019.

During the implementation of proactive surveillance, 9 models of barbecues burning solid fuels were tested. Non-compliances were found in all 8 models. The following non-compliances were found: sharp edges on the parts that are accessible to users, lack of handles on the      cooking grids, lack of required warnings and pictograms on the products and instructions for use that do not contain all the necessary information or lack of instructions.

Economic operators withdrew from the market 5 models of barbecues (total of 3176 products) and destroyed 1 model (total of 11 products). Also, economic operators removed the non-compliances in 3 models of barbecues (total of 196 products).

Although none of the tested products poses a serious or high risk to consumers, based on the results of surveillance it can be concluded that compliance of the barbecues burning solid fuels on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not satisfactory.

Therefore, we remind manufacturers, importers and distributors of barbecues burning solid fuels that they are required to ensure that these products meet all the requirements specified by the Law on General Product Safety and the standard BAS EN 1860-1+A1:2019, primarily all the necessary information and warnings for safe use of the product.
