Proactive market surveillance of hand-held electric hedge trimmers completed

Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and market inspections of the Federation of BiH, Republic of Srpska and Brčko District of BiH have completed joint market surveillance of hand-held electric hedge trimmers. 

Market Surveillance Agency of BiH and market inspection authorities of the Federation of BiH, Republic of Srpska and Brčko District of BiH completed the joint market surveillance of hand-held electric hedge trimmers. This is one of the two product groups covered by the Order on the safety of machinery (Official Gazette of BiH, 04/10), that were subject to proactive market surveillance carried out in 2024.

The main objective of the surveillance was to determine whether the hand-held electric hedge trimmers that are available on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina are safe for consumers to use.

During the implementation of proactive surveillance, total of 10 inspection controls were conducted and 7 various types of hand-held electric hedge trimmers were tested.

According to laboratory testing of hand-held electric hedge trimmers, it was determined that five (5) controlled types of products (71%) did not comply with the safety requirements of the Order on the safety of machinery and they may pose a risk of injury to consumers.

Competent inspection authorities ordered the measures of temporary withdrawal of the non-compliant products from the market until the non-compliances are removed.

Economic operators have brought 4 types of the non-compliant hand-held electric hedge trimmers (total of 109 products) into compliance with the provisions of the Order on the safety of machinery. One type of the non-compliant hand-held electric hedge trimmers (total of 3 products) were withdrawn from the market and returned to the distributor.
