IPA 2007 Technical Assistance Project

During the period from November 2009 to December 2011, Market Surveillance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the beneficiary of the Component 3 of the IPA 2007 project "Safety Infrastructure in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The project, with a total budget of €1.7 million, was launched with the overall objective of further developing the quality and safety infrastructure in line with the provisions of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), and of creating an enabling environment to strengthen BiH’s international competitiveness and support economic development.

The project was implemented by European Profiles S.A. in consortium with the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification (AENOR), the Bulgarian Institute for Standardisation and the Hellenic Institute of Metrology. The main beneficiaries of the project were Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH (Components 1 and 2) and the Market Surveillance Agency of BiH (Component 3).

The main results of this IPA 2007 project were the following:

  • With the support of the project, and thanks to the joint efforts and consensus of the inspectorates of the entities of BiH and the Brčko District of BiH, Market Surveillance Strategy for Non-Food Consumer Products in Bosnia And Herzegovina (2011 – 2015) was adopted.

  • Coordination and cooperation mechanisms between the Agency and the competent inspection authorities of the entities of BiH and the Brčko District of BiH were significantly improved through the work of the Coordination Board.

  • The capacities of the Agency employees and inspectors in the fields of product safety and market surveillance were strengthened through various training activities and study visits.

  • Public awareness of product safety was raised through the publication of five types of brochures.
